Democrat Senator INDICTED — Family Drug Ring!

An 82-year-old Virginia state senator with over three decades in office now faces federal drug trafficking and money laundering charges after allegedly using her position to run an illegal marijuana operation that enriched her family members for years before the state legalized recreational cannabis.

Family Enterprise Exposed

Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Thursday that Virginia State Senator Lillie Louise Lucas faces five federal charges including drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud, and firearms violations. The indictment names seven defendants total, including Lucas’s two daughters, Lisa Lucas-Burke and Theresa Lucas-Lamb, plus her grandson Ryan Eichelberger. Federal prosecutors allege Lucas orchestrated what they call the Lucas Enterprise, a criminal operation that distributed more than 100 kilograms of marijuana while she served as president pro tempore of the Virginia Senate and chair of the powerful Finance and Appropriations Committee since 2024.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated Lucas and her co-conspirators allegedly created a criminal enterprise to illicitly enrich themselves rather than serving the public interest. The indictment reveals Lucas opened The CBD Shoppe and The Cannabis Outlet in 2019, nearly two years before Virginia legalized recreational marijuana on July 1, 2021. In 2021, Lucas and her daughter opened another Cannabis Outlet location in Portsmouth, where Lucas-Burke currently runs for mayor.

Caught On Tape

The most damaging evidence may come from Lucas’s own words. During a recorded conversation with an unindicted co-conspirator about marijuana reform legislation, Lucas allegedly stated: “This is our last chance at generational wealth…I’ve got too old to not be greedy.” Prosecutors claim she actively pushed for favorable language in state marijuana bills to benefit her family businesses while using her committee chairmanship to shield the operation from criminal scrutiny. The FBI raided Lucas’s office and businesses in May before the grand jury returned the indictment.

Abuse Of Public Trust

Lucas has represented Virginia residents since 1991 and became president pro tempore in 2020, making her the presiding Senate member when the lieutenant governor is absent. Attorney General Blanche emphasized that Lucas held a position of public trust for over 30 years but allegedly put personal financial interests before constituents. Lucas responded Thursday morning on social media, characterizing the prosecution as the federal government wielding its full weight against an elderly great-grandmother, though her full statement was incomplete. The case highlights concerns about elected officials exploiting their positions for personal gain while claiming to serve the public good.
