Our standards

Nation Rundown covers politics, the economy, national events, investigations, and culture for a general American audience. Everything we publish is reported with rigor, fact-checked before publication, and written to inform rather than inflame.

This page explains how that actually works.

Accuracy and fact-checking

Before a story publishes, we verify the details that carry weight: names, titles, dates, figures, quotes, and the attribution behind every significant claim.

We work from primary sources wherever they exist — court filings, legislation, agency data, financial disclosures, official statements, and direct interviews. When we rely on another outlet’s reporting, we say so and link to it rather than absorbing it as our own. When a claim can’t be verified, we either leave it out or state plainly what remains unconfirmed and why.

Anonymous sourcing is used sparingly, only when the information is significant and cannot be obtained on the record, and only when an editor knows the source’s identity.

Corrections and updates

We correct our mistakes in public.

When an error is identified — by our team or by a reader — we review the article and fix it promptly. Substantive corrections carry a note explaining what was wrong and when it was updated. Minor fixes, such as a typo or a broken link, are made without a note.

Developing stories are updated as new facts emerge, with the story’s update history reflected on the page. We do not quietly delete or rewrite published reporting to obscure an error.

Editorial independence

What we cover and how we cover it is decided inside our newsroom, based on the relevance of the story and the interest of our readers. No political party, campaign, organization, advertiser, or partner has any control over our editorial content, and none is given advance review of a story before it publishes.

Advertising and sponsored content

Nation Rundown is supported by advertising. That relationship never touches our reporting.

Advertisers have no input into our coverage, no advance notice of stories, and no ability to have coverage altered or removed. Our advertising and editorial functions are handled separately.

Any sponsored or paid content is clearly labeled as such and is visually distinct from our reporting. Affiliate links, where used, are disclosed. Advertising revenue never determines whether a story runs.

Fairness and context

We seek comment from the subjects of critical reporting and give them a reasonable opportunity to respond. When a response comes after publication, we add it.

We present the substance of opposing arguments accurately, including arguments we expect our readers to disagree with. Analysis and opinion, where we publish it, is labeled and kept separate from news reporting.

Headlines have to be supported by the story underneath them. We don’t overstate a finding to win a click.

Transparency

Readers should have confidence in how our information is prepared and presented. That means being clear about where our facts come from, open about what we don’t yet know, honest about our errors, and reachable when you think we’ve gotten something wrong.
