ALERT: Pills RECALLED — Medication Fails Important Test

Thousands of Americans taking blood pressure medication need to check their medicine cabinets immediately after nearly 4,000 bottles of a prescription drug failed quality testing and were pulled from shelves nationwide.

Failed Quality Standards Trigger Nationwide Recall

Macleods Pharma USA recalled 3,744 bottles of blood pressure medication on October 7 after the pills failed dissolution testing, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The recall includes 3,528 bottles containing 30 pills from lot 12251163A and 216 bottles containing 90 pills from lot 12251163B. Both lots carry an expiration date of May 31, 2027, and were distributed across the United States.

The FDA classified this as a Class II recall on October 26, indicating the defective medication could cause temporary or medically reversible health problems. However, the agency considers the likelihood of serious health consequences remote. The recall remains active as authorities work to remove affected products from distribution channels.

Pills Failed to Dissolve Properly During Testing

The FDA identified “failed dissolution specifications” as the reason for the recall, meaning the medication did not break down correctly during laboratory testing. When pills fail to dissolve properly, patients may not receive the intended dose of medication, potentially leaving their blood pressure inadequately controlled. This manufacturing defect raises concerns about medication effectiveness for thousands of patients relying on these prescriptions to manage their cardiovascular health.

Second Major Blood Pressure Recall in Recent Weeks

This recall follows another blood pressure medication pulled from shelves just weeks earlier over identical quality failures. In September, India-based Inventia Healthcare Ltd. recalled 13,567 bottles of 25-milligram chlorthalidone tablets after the medication also failed dissolution testing. Chlorthalidone treats high blood pressure and fluid retention, according to Mayo Clinic. The back-to-back recalls of blood pressure medications for the same quality control failure highlight ongoing concerns about pharmaceutical manufacturing standards. Macleods Pharma USA did not respond to requests for comment about the recall.

What Patients Should Do

Americans taking blood pressure medication should immediately check their prescription bottles for the affected lot numbers and expiration dates. Patients who discover they have recalled medication should contact their pharmacist or healthcare provider for replacement prescriptions. Do not stop taking blood pressure medication without consulting a doctor, as uncontrolled high blood pressure poses serious health risks including stroke and heart attack.
